Choosing
the right career path.
“My mom and sister are both artists, and my dad is a doctor who taught
at Indiana University School of Medicine. Dad always said, ‘Choose a profession
that you enjoy and you’ll never have to work another day in your life.’ I
chose the field of plastic surgery because I’ve inherited Mom’s artistic
touch and have always been the type of person who enjoyed making and creating
things. And because it also gives me great satisfaction to know that the artistic
enhancement I make on a patient’s face or body can also lead to the enhancement
of that person’s self esteem. I am certain I could never do anything with
my professional life that would give me more joy and a greater sense of accomplishment
than this path I’ve chosen.”
Dr. Brent J. Smith specializes in plastic, cosmetic
and reconstructive surgery of the face, head and neck.
He entered practice in 1988 after completing postgraduate
training in head and neck surgery. This fellowship
was under the auspices of his preceptor, the internationally
renowned Devinder S. Mangat, MD, at Mangat Facial Surgery
Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Dr. Smith is board certified by both the American
Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
and the American Board of Otolaryngology. He also maintains
affiliations and memberships with numerous other medical
organizations.
During 2001 and 2002, The Learning Channel televised
multiple airings of the documentary “A Patient’s
Story” in which Dr. Smith was featured. The cover
story for the October 28, 2002 edition of People magazine
focused on plastic surgery and featured Dr. Smith and
two of his patients. Dr. Smith was featured again in People’s October
4, 2004 issue. Dr. Smith is also featured in the Winter
2002 issue of Colorado Expression. Dr. Smith
continues to participate in teaching his specialty
on a local, regional and national basis and has been
published in national and international books and journals.
While his profession is important to him, Dr. Smith’s
family is even more so. He and his wife, Linda, have
four children, and all reside in Colorado. The entire
family is active in community and charity events.
